Musical Futures at Flegg High School

  • Four years implementing Musical Futures approaches
  • A range of non-formal teaching approaches have been embedded into the Year 7 and 8 curriculum, focusing on Whole Class Instrumental Work, Band Instrumental Work, Non-Western Music and Songwriting
  • Year 9 is completely dedicated to the informal learning model to create a curriculum that is personalised and where the pupils have a real chance to make choices over what they learn and their preferred learning approach
  • Extensive use of NUMU
  • Peer tutors work in the classroom alongside the music teacher

Why Musical Futures?

“Music is a high profile popular subject where pupils of all abilities and ages are able to reach their musical potential. The music department has become a central part of the school and other subjects are looking to us for innovative ideas on teaching and learning.”
