Musical Futures at Hornsey School for Girls
- Hornsey School for Girls is a Performing Arts Specialist school in Haringey, North London.
- Hornsey have been using Musical futures to teach music at Key Stage 3 for the past four years.
- Resources assist students in their own independent learning, enabling students to ‘find their own way’ to explore performance and composition, essentially through their own structured listening and imitative performance skills using the many forms of independent learning that the modern world provides (YouTube, Google images etc).
Why Musical Futures?
'The students enjoy the experience of creating their own bands and learning in the informal manner that Musical Futures lends itself to.
The wonderful thing about learning music in this way is of course that the learning never stops when they leave the classroom. Lunch times are busy to say the least! Here at Hornsey, we (the adult musicians!) strive to ensure that every student is involved and inspired, which means that they (the younger musicians) aspire to achieve their potential through Musical Futures. It’s a team sport!'
