Musical Futures at Alderbrook School
- Four years implementing MF approaches
- Musical Futures approaches are used in Years 7 & 8 to prepare pupils for Music BTEC in Year 9
- Numbers of pupils currently studying for a Level 2 qualification in music has increased substantially with the 52 pupils studying Music in Year 11 (two large classes), 70 pupils in Year 10 (three classes) and 42 pupils in Year 9 (two classes again). Previously Music had only been taught to one small option group.
- As part of ‘Alderbury’ – Alderbrook’s own Glastonbury - every pupil in Year 8 performs to half a year group (around 125 pupils) in the main school hall.
- Pupils across Key Stage 3 become accustomed to developing performance confidence
Why Musical Futures?
“We believe very strongly in a completely inclusive teaching approach. We make it clear to the pupils that we think everyone can access music, according to their interests and abilities. Pupils have come to recognise that, as long as they are making the best possible effort, they will make steady progress and achieve.”
