Musical Futures at Steyning Grammar

·         Jon Reeves has been running Musical Futures for 5 years in the West Sussex region.

·         Most recently, he has set up Musical Futures at Steyning Grammar, focussing on developing a resource and curriculum enabling KS3 to be delivered in one room with silent band set ups.

·         At KS4 groups can gain an additional qualification, working with the Music Practitioner qualifications through Rock School. This is as an alternative to GCSE for some students  and as an addition for Gifted and Talented students.

·         Work is now being done to develop practice at KS5 to mirror the Musical Futures learning styles.

Why Musical Futures?

Jon previously worked at Longhill High School, where Musical Futures approaches were used to encourage active and engaging learning to take place. With his recent experience of working in two very different types of school, he is well placed to see the benefits in both settings. At Longhill considerable work was done to create resources to support Musical Futures work and sample schemes of work like the ‘We Will Rock You’ bridging unit used to prepare students for band work.
